White County Emergency Medical Services Education Course

Emergency responders practice lifesaving techniques on a medical training mannequin indoors.

Through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) ThreeStar asset-based planning forum, stakeholders from Sparta, Tennessee, and White County identified increasing emergency health staff as a top need. The county used ThreeStar grant funding to purchase cardiac, patient, and ambulance simulators for use at Motlow State Community College (MSCC) and began offering new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) courses at the Sparta location. According to the MSCC Emergency Services Director, without the simulators, there could not be paramedic courses at the Sparta location. There have been more than 250 students that have graduated with EMT-AMT degrees from the location since 2019.
