Westmoreland Wastewater Infrastructure Improvement

Two workers wearing safety vests and hard hats review plans together inside an industrial facility.

The City of Westmoreland, located in northeast Sumner County, is home to a population of approximately 2,600. The city owns and operates a 0.3 MGD wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), originally constructed in 1979. The WWTP struggled to consistently meet discharge limits due to aging infrastructure. Through Clean Water State Revolving Fund loans, the city has been able to upgrade the capabilities of the plant. Some project highlights include the replacement of aging infrastructure, better quality effluent into an impaired receiving stream than the current plant discharges, improvement of water quality, protection of public health and the environment, and principal forgiveness for a small and disadvantaged community.
