In 2014, Trousdale County initiated a joint community health and active living initiative known as “#1 for Life.” After conducting a county-wide health assessment, community health leaders and school officials decided to use a Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) ThreeStar grant to provide health-related educational classes, incentives, and nutritional counseling. Over 425 adults and 625 students have participated in the programming, and in a five-year span, Trousdale County moved from 71st to 54th in health outcome rankings and from 87th to 61st in quality of life.
