Johnson City Placemakers Grant

Downtown street scene with a large sign reading “Johnson City, Tennessee” beside brick buildings and streetlights under a cloudy sky.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) awarded the Johnson City Development Authority and Connect Downtown Johnson City funding for a downtown redevelopment project through the Tennessee Placemakers Entrepreneurship fund. The project reactivated two vacant buildings and assisted more than 60 micro-businesses. The community created two entrepreneur retail spaces, The Generalist and The Hometown Cottage. Each space has about 30 retail pop-up locations, and there is an active maker and event space in The Generalist.
