Humboldt Utilities Water System Improvements

American and Tennessee state flags fly in front of a water tower labeled “Humboldt."

The City of Humboldt implemented improvements to its water treatment plant and distribution system to provide a new industrial client with reliable daily flow of up to 2 million gallons per day of water to operate its facility. This need doubled the demand for the city’s former system. Though the project was complex and carried out in multiple stages, the city utilized creative solutions and funding sources to deliver a large volume of water to the outer edge of the system without compromising the existing distribution system.

The Humboldt community benefitted from the creation of 1,600 jobs, multiple new restaurants, and other commercial developments that followed the plant upgrades. The city combined funding from the State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF) with multiple other sources, including Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) grants, to complete the $44 million project, address community needs, minimize the local economic burden of the project, and provide safe, reliable drinking water.
