Educational Tablets to Reduce Recidivism

In a two-photo collage, two women in matching pink shirts hold tablet devices; in one image they look down at the screens, and in the other they face the camera while holding the tablets.

The Reentry, Employment, Adult Education Program, or Project Reap, provided the Jackson County Jail with digital tablets that allow inmates to take GED classes and prepare for GED testing. The tablets offer a pathway to prepare for employment upon release. Jackson County Jail offers barber and cosmetology courses, soft skills, and interview practice, and additional educational materials will be uploaded.

Additional Funding Information:
Project REAP, administered through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Office of Reentry, provides computer tablets to county jails across the state. The tablets allow inmates to complete the required adult education coursework in preparation for the HiSET high school equivalency exam. This represents a $9 million investment that will better prepare justice involved individuals to reenter Tennessee's communities and become productive citizens after serving their sentence.
