Clay County Sheriff’s Office New Officer Training

In an outdoor area, a police officer speaks to another officer who is holding a pad of paper.

Clay County is a small, rural county with limited resources and a limited tax base. Grants from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) Tuition Assistance Program have helped provide much-needed funding for training newly hired law enforcement officers. Clay County used this program to cover the full tuition cost of sending a new cadet to Basic Police School.

Without this type of grant, agencies typically must allocate training funding to sending new hires to the academy. The grant frees up training funds, so the agency can now send a senior officer to receive additional training on narcotics, domestic violence, and mental illness.

Additional Funding Information:
The Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy Tuition Assistance Program helps reduce the cost to local law enforcement agencies when a new officer is sent to the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA), and funds other training and professional development expenses. This includes three critical areas of assistance for local law enforcement agencies including paid tuition for Basic Police School, daily working uniforms and physical fitness gear, and assistance for incidental training expenses to offset ancillary costs of training new personnel.
