Black Knight Park

Black Knight Park 2

The community in Greene County has invested in a 9-acre public green space, Black Knight Park, between the Chuckey-Doak Middle and High School campuses for over 10 years. Community members were responsible for the initial work on the park, donating their time and labor. The Coordinated School Health program and school’s leadership partnered to initiate a formal project with the goal of enhancing the space. Through a Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Healthy Built Environment grant, the park upgraded its trail system, installed drinking water stations, put in a disc golf course, started growing edible landscaping, and established signage.

In 2023, part of the park was named after a former student with accessibility limitations in honor of the now-accessible green space. Data collected over 14 months after the improvements showed that both students and staff visited the trail more often, and that the space made them feel more energetic, revived, and peaceful.
