On Thursday, May 29, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO), a division of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, joined NASCAR driver Ross Chastain for a traffic safety event, reminding attendees to “Use Your Melon” and never drink and drive. This event was exclusive for students at Nashville Auto-Diesel College to help increase traffic safety education and promote safe driving behaviors.

Nashville, TN—Today, the Tennessee Department of Education (department) announced four state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The PAEMST award is the nation’s highest honor for U.S. K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers. A newly formed partnership between the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies is producing early results in the fight against violent crime in Memphis. Known as the Bluff City Task Force, the initiative was launched in May to strategically saturate high-crime areas with uniformed officers, focusing on proactive traffic enforcement as a means to disrupt criminal activity.
