About this event
Join the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum – Hotel Halbrook State Historic Site on May 14, 2026, for our Economic Community Development Program, featuring Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett as our special guest speaker.
Secretary Hargett will present, "Civic Leadership and Economic Development in Tennessee" a discussion of the upcoming 2026 elections and offer insight into how the Tennessee Department of State works with businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations across the state. His remarks will provide a practical look at how state government supports civic engagement, regulatory compliance, and economic development at the local level.
As Tennessee’s chief elections official and the state’s chief record keeper, the Secretary of State oversees elections, business and nonprofit filings, rules and regulations, and the Tennessee State Library & Archives, playing a vital role in ensuring transparency, accessibility, and trust in state government.
Tre Hargett was elected by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2009 as Tennessee’s 37th Secretary of State and has been reelected to four-year terms in 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025. He serves as chief executive officer of the Department of State, overseeing nearly 300 employees and multiple divisions that interact with all three branches of state government. Prior to his current role, Hargett served in the Tennessee House of Representatives and as chairman of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority. A native of Ripley, he now resides in Hendersonville with his family.
This program is part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to connecting history, civic leadership, and economic development in our community.
