Temporary Traffic Impacts Scheduled Near Tennessee State Capitol June 30–July 2, 2026
The Tennessee Department of General Services (DGS) announces temporary traffic impacts near the Tennessee State Capitol and the Andrew Jackson State Office Building as roadway improvements are completed along Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Boulevard.
From June 30 through July 2, a contractor working on behalf of the Department of General Services' STREAM division will mill and pave two intersections along Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Boulevard:
- MLK Boulevard and 6th Avenue North
- MLK Boulevard and Lamar Alexander Way
Work is scheduled daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
During construction hours, motorists should expect temporary lane and intersection closures, traffic rerouting, and possible delays in the area surrounding the Tennessee State Capitol complex. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow additional travel time when traveling through downtown Nashville.
Pedestrian access will remain available throughout the project.
The roadway improvements are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance infrastructure serving State facilities and the public.
See the traffic control map below, outlining detour routes, for reference.
