Important Update: Motlow Tunnel Renovation Project Expands Blasting Schedule
We're writing to inform you about an important update to our Motlow Tunnel renovation project. Starting July 21, 2025, we'll be adding a second daily blast to help accelerate progress on this critical infrastructure improvement.
What's Changing
In addition to our current morning blast, we'll be conducting a new midday blast for approximately two months. This expansion will help us complete the tunnel renovation more efficiently while continuing to enhance access to the Tennessee State Capitol.
Your Updated Blasting Schedule
Morning Blast (no changes to current schedule)
- Setup begins around 4:00 a.m.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard closes at approximately sunrise
- Blast occurs about 15 minutes after sunrise
- Road reopens 2-10 minutes after the blast when all-clear is given
NEW: Midday Blast (starting July 21)
- Time: Between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Duration: Approximately two months
- Warning horns will sound before each blast
- Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will close temporarily during blasting
