Motlow Tunnel Renovation Project Blasting Schedule
The Department of General Services is excited to share updates about our upcoming Motlow Tunnel renovation project that will enhance access to the TN State Capitol. As we prepare to break ground, we want to ensure you have all the information you need about the construction timeline and blasting schedule.
Project Timeline at a Glance
- Mid-May/Early June 2025: Blasting operations begin
- June through October 2025: Ongoing blasting and construction
- Blasting Schedule: Monday through Friday
- Around 4:00 a.m. – Setup starts
- About sunrise – Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. closes
- About 15 minutes after sunrise – Blast occurs
- Two to ten (2-10) minutes after the blast – All clear signal is given, and the road reopens
Stay Informed
We understand that construction work, particularly blasting operations, can impact daily activities. To help you plan accordingly, the contractor has established a text notification system for all interested stakeholders.
Join our User Group: Receive timely updates, including any changes to the blasting schedule or project timeline. You can choose to receive text notifications either:
- At 5:00 p.m. the evening before blasting operations, or
- About 30 minutes before sunrise each morning of the scheduled blasting
- Or both
How to Join: By May 2, 2025, send your name, preferred phone number, building location, and notification time preference (prior evening, early morning, or both) to tenant.services@tn.gov.
