Execution Advisory: Anthony Hines #109293
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, by order of the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Tennessee Department of Correction carried out the death sentence of Anthony Hines #109293 by means of lethal injection at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. Inmate Hines was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m. (CDT).
His last words were, “Tell my son hello.”
Execution Statement from Melissa Jenkins, daughter of victim Katherine Jean Jenkins:
"My family would like to thank the investigators, prosecutors, the District Attorney’s office, and everyone who worked tirelessly to bring accountability for the murder of my mother, Catherine Jean Jenkins.
For four decades, our family has endured the unimaginable pain and grief of her death. There is a deep void that will never be filled, a lifetime of memories we were denied because she was taken from us. One senseless act not only took her life, but forever changed the lives of the many family members and friends who were robbed of the chance to hug her, laugh with her, hear her stories, or see her beautiful smile again.
How do we move forward from a loss like this? The truth is, we never truly do. We will always mourn the wonderful person my mother was, even as we continue living our lives. While today does not bring closure, nor does it bring my mother back, it does finally bring justice. Our focus remains on honoring her memory and finding peace as a family. After so many years, we are finally able to close this chapter of our lives and begin to heal. We respectfully ask for privacy as we navigate what lies ahead."
Execution Statement from Dennis Jenkins, son of victim Katherine Jean Jenkins:
"For those of you that are concerned that he may have suƯered or felt pain, let me tell you what he did to my mother 41 years ago, he attacked her, her only means of defense was a plastic spray bottle, he tortured her he then stabbed her thirteen times one which all the way through and came out her back ,that wasn't enough he then sexually assaulted her with the knife he had just use to stab her to death, he then folded a twenty dollar bill and put it under her watch band. I hope he did suffer and felt intense pain. I wonder how you would feel if it happened to one of your loved ones, and these hot shot attorneys that are trying to make a name for themselves by wanting these death row inmates to be given special treatment, maybe you would feel differently if it happened to one of your loved ones. I would like to thank Governor Lee for not intervening in these cases."
Execution Statement from Garrett Jenkins, grandson of victim Katherine Jean Jenkins:
"Today is not necessarily a celebration but instead hopefully a chance to find some closure in an ordeal that has taken over 40 years to complete. It would have been nice if my grandmother had an additional 40 years added on to her life from the time it was taken."
