Interstates 55, 75, and 26 Multimodal Corridor Study
As identified in the Tennessee Long-Range Transportation Plan, the strategic highway system includes routes the state considers critical to statewide mobility and regional connectivity. TheTtransportation Plan classified routes needing improvement, while protecting and maximizing capacity over the next decade. Interstates 55, Interstate 75, and Interstate 26 are a part of this system and classification.
Beginning in September 2018, TDOT will work with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. to complete an 18-month study of the I-55/75/26 corridors, which will also identify short- and long-term solutions for improving problem spots along each corridor. All study documents and reports will be available in the I-55/75/26 Corridor Study Library.
Overview
What is the study area?
The study area for the I-55/75/26 Multimodal Corridor Study stretches across the state of Tennessee and includes the entire lengths of I-55, I-75, and I-26, from state line to state line. The study, which also includes the I-155 corridor, includes more than 200 miles of interstate -- 13 miles along I-55, 162 miles along I-75, 54 miles along I-26, and 16 miles along I-155. The study area crosses 22 counties, each with cities that depend on these corridors for commerce, tourism, and daily commuting.

What is the purpose of the study?
The results of the study will provide a prioritized listing of potential multimodal projects that can be considered by TDOT or by local planning organizations.
When will the study be finished?
This study was completed June, 2020.
What are some expected study outcomes?
The study will investigate a range of multimodal solutions to address future travel demands, with emphases on managing congestion, improving safety, maximizing the potential for freight diversion and preserving/enhancing the corridor's economic benefits.
How can you help?
TDOT is dedicated to managing congestion and improving safety along the I-55, I-75, I-26, and I-155 corridors. Both technical analysis and public input are needed to provide as much data as possible for the study.
