Q:  Are internships at the State of Tennessee paid positions?

A:  The Tennessee Leaders of Tomorrow Internship Program offers both paid and unpaid positions.  The matter of compensation is determined by the agency providing the internship positions.  This information will be supplied at the time of application.  Applicants are also encouraged to contact educational institutions and other non-profit organizations to apply for assistance as needed.  

Q:  What are the hours of an internship position at the State of Tennessee?

A:  Applicants should expect to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; however, the specific working hours for each position will be agreed upon between the intern and his/her supervisor.  At no time should an intern work over 37.5 hours in the same work week.  Flexible schedules may be accommodated.  This is also at the discretion and management of the responsible agency.

Q:  Is specific intern housing available?

A:  No. Applicants must arrange for their own housing.

Q:  Is political preference a deciding factor in the application review process?

A:  No. It is essential, however, that applicants are dedicated to the ideals and mission of the State of Tennessee.

Q:  Can I mail a hard copy of my submission?

A:  No. Hard copies of submissions cannot be accepted. Only documents submitted via our application portal direction will be reviewed.

Q:  Will I be considered for an internship if my recommendation is sent in late?

A:  In order to be considered for an internship, all application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted on or before the corresponding application deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and it is encouraged to submit application packages as soon as possible.
