    “We are obviously pleased; a lot of hard work went into drafting and passing this statute that has been so helpful in giving businesses some certainty and yet another reason to bring jobs to Tennessee. Successful plaintiffs still get 100% of their economic damages like lost wages and medical expenses. The caps address the subjectivity, risk, uncertainty, and inconsistency associated with awards of noneconomic damages like pain and suffering. We also appreciated Federal Judge Eli Richardson taking the reasonable and wise step of certifying the issue to our highest state court for its interpretation and guidance. When the Tennessee Constitution is at issue, it is the Tennessee Supreme Court who should have the final say.”

  • Tennessee Joins Bipartisan, Multistate Investigation of JUUL Labs

The 39-state coalition is investigating JUUL’s marketing and sales practices, including targeting of youth, claims regarding nicotine content, and statements regarding risks, safety and effectiveness as a smoking cessation device.

Slatery III joined a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general renewing their request to U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to discharge the federal student loans of all students enrolled in schools operated by Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC. In Nashville, Dream Center operated The Art Institutes and Argosy University, both of which closed in December 2018.

  • AG Slatery Asks FTC to Strengthen Online Protections for Children

Slatery III and a bipartisan coalition of twenty-four State Attorneys General today submitted a comment letter to the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) asking the agency to strengthen its rules prohibiting websites, mobile applications, and other digital marketing companies from collecting personal information from children under the age of 13 and using that information to track children across the internet.

  • Four Lead State Attorneys General Release Statement on Opioid Settlement News
