HBCU Success Targeted Capacity Building

About

We seek to engage HBCUs, state policymakers, and higher education advocates— such as intermediaries and scholars who specialize in HBCU and state policy— to create a space for honest conversations in a more concerted way. Sharing research expertise with HBCUs, we will advise presidents and executive leaders as they undertake state-level advocacy work.  We believe it is critical that all relevant stakeholders have access to the tools and knowledge needed to engage in policy work to benefit Tennessee's HBCUs.

HBCU Success Executive in Residence (XIR) Program

The Executive in Residence (XIR) is a program of technical assistance available to staff and faculty at Tennessee's HBCUs that is designed to offer support and thought partnership in key areas of postsecondary administration, such as the academic enterprise, financial aid compliance, and government relations. The purpose of this program is twofold:

  • To provide project-based technical assistance to Tennessee’s historically black institutions in order to a) improve student success, b) expand institutional capacity to operate within its mission, and c) increase the number of Tennesseans with a postsecondary credential; and
  • To inform policymaking and agenda setting by providing institutional and operational context to Higher Education Commission staff.

The Executive-in-Residence program will fulfill this purpose by engaging with campus leadership and staff to select well-defined, institutional-centered challenges or projects, related specifically to student success and/or academic affairs. To find out more about hosting an XIR project at your institution, please contact Dr. Brittany Mosby, Director of HBCU Success (Brittany.Mosby@tn.gov).
