Bridge Inspections Prompt Lane Closures in Rhea and Cumberland Counties
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) bridge inspection and repair division will conduct a series of routine bridge inspections next week requiring temporary lane closures in Rhea and Cumberland Counties.
Monday, September 8, 2025 – SR 30 bridge over Richland Creek in Rhea County
- SR 30 East is closed between 2nd Avenue and Delaware Avenue/Back Valley Road from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone.
Tuesday, September 9, 2025 – I-40 bridge over the Obed River in Cumberland County
- Routine inspections will be conducted on I-40 in both directions at mile marker 317.
- I-40 East: Right travel lane and shoulder closed from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time.
- I-40 West: Right travel lane and shoulder closed from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. local time.
Wednesday, September 10, 2025 – I-40 bridge over Drowning Creek in Cumberland County
- Routine inspections will be conducted on I-40 in both directions at mile marker 315.
- I-40 East: Right travel lane and shoulder closed from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time.
- I-40 West: Right travel lane and shoulder closed from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. local time.
Drivers should use caution when traveling through these areas during these times and expect delays. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions.
