Bridge Inspections Prompt Lane Closures in Putnam and Cumberland Counties

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s bridge inspection division will conduct routine inspections on two I-40 bridges next week, resulting in temporary lane closures on state routes in Cumberland and Putnam Counties.

SR 1 in Cumberland County: On Monday, September 22, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM local time, inspections will take place on the I-40 bridge over State Route 1 at log mile 25.68 in Crab Orchard. Lane closure will begin on SR 1 East and shift to SR 1 West as work progresses. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic safely through the work zone. Traffic on I-40 will not be affected by this work.

SR 24 in Putnam County: On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM local time, inspections will take place on the I-40 bridge over State Route 24 near the Putnam County line. Lane closures will begin on SR 24 East and shift to SR 24 West later in the day. Traffic on I-40 will not be affected by this work.

Drivers should use caution when traveling through the area during this time and expect delays. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions.
