TDOT Begins Major Project in Crockett County
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is beginning a significant project to relocate SR 76 (US 79) in Bells, TN. As part of this effort, several road closures will be implemented in the city of Bells beginning Thursday, August 14, 2025.
· SR 88 (Central Ave.) from High Street to Christian Ave. Ext.
· SR 88 (Central Ave.), West of the CSX Railroad
· Weddle St., South of Mitchell Ave.
· Hicks St. from High St. to South of existing SR 88 (Central Ave.)
A posted detour will be in place for SR 88.
This work is part of a $17.8 million State Industrial Access (SIA) project that promotes industrial growth in the region. The project specifically supports Pictsweet, a major employer in Bells. The SIA Program offers funding and technical assistance for highway access to new and expanding industries throughout Tennessee.
The project includes grading, drainage, construction of a concrete I-beam bridge, and paving on US 79 (SR 76) for industrial access support.
