SR 67 Broad Street Bridge Reopens in Carter County
Less than a year after Hurricane Helene, the rebuilding of East Tennessee roads and bridges is nearly complete. On Wednesday, July 2, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reopened the State Route 67/Broad Street Bridge in Carter County, nine months after Hurricane Helene swept through East Tennessee.
The SR-67/Broad Street Bridge serves as a major thoroughfare for Elizabethton, Carter County, and the Region. Two state routes, SR-67 and SR-91, as well as US-321, each cross this historic bridge, which averages more than 22,650 vehicles per day.
Of the 49 sections of state/local routes initially closed due to the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in September 2024, 47 have now reopened. The two remaining closures are SR-159/US-321 in Carter/Johnson Counties and the SR-353 bridge in Washington County.
Motorists are advised to use caution on the SR-67/Broad Street Bridge, as temporary lane closures will be intermittently in place and workers may be present over the next few weeks. Michels Construction Co. is the prime contractor for this project, and the total cost for this contract is $6,624,352.
