Resurfacing Prompts Lane Closures on SR 8 in Hamilton County
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Drivers traveling along Cherokee Boulevard and Dayton Boulevard (State Route 8) from Frazier Avenue to Signal Mountain Boulevard should be aware of an upcoming resurfacing and road diet project that will temporarily impact traffic. Beginning Sunday evening, July 27, 2025, and continuing nightly, Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will perform construction activities between the hours of 8:00 pm and 6:00 am to minimize daytime disruptions.
This $1.8 million initiative, collaboratively designed by the City of Chattanooga and the City of Red Bank, was officially approved by the City of Chattanooga and aims to improve overall safety and accessibility of the route. The project will convert the existing four-lane road into a two-lane configuration complete with a center turn lane, on-street parking, and a dedicated bike lane.
The project completion date is October 31, 2025. Intermittent lane closures and flagging operations may occur throughout construction, causing delays.
Drivers are encouraged to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling through this area. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions.
As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT’s motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departure. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Tennessee’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violation of this law can result in up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
