Bridge Work Prompts I-275 N Ramp Closures in Knox County

Friday, June 13, 2025 | 07:54am

Motorists traveling on I-40 and I-275 North in Knox County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have a temporary impact on traffic.

Beginning on Sunday evening, June 15, several ramps to I-275 North in Knox County will be intermittently closed for short periods. This will allow crews to remove asbestos from the existing bridge and demolish the center median barrier wall/bridge deck in anticipation of the upcoming replacement of the bridges over Elm Street/Bernard Avenue in July.

Those ramps are:

  • I-40 East to I-275 North (Exit 387A)
  • Henley Street to I-275 North
  • I-40 West to I-275 North (Exit 387A)

These ramp closures will be in place nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Friday, June 20.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and “Know Before You Go!” by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
