CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has approved rolling roadblocks for utility work on I-40 in both directions between mile marker 293 on I-40 East and mile marker 306 on I-40 West. The operation is scheduled for Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. local time.

The work will involve simultaneous utility crossings at four locations between the Jackson Lee Road overpass and Exit 301 (Monterey/Livingston). Law enforcement will assist with rolling roadblocks to ensure the safety of drivers and crews.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect the following:

·       Rolling roadblocks in both directions on I-40

·       Presence of law enforcement vehicles, message boards, and signage

·       Reduced speeds and potential delays

·       Personnel and equipment on or near the roadway

Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and be prepared to stop when traveling through the work zone. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions. In the event of inclement weather, an alternate date for the operation is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2025, during the same time frame.

As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT’s motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departure. Drivers should never tweet, text, or use their phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.

Tennessee’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violation of this law can result in up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
