JACKSON, Tenn. – Students at Rhea Elementary School in Paris, Tennessee, recently traded pencils for paintbrushes as part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Region 4 Paint the Plow project. The statewide initiative invites students to transform TDOT snowplows into rolling works of art while learning about winter weather safety and the essential role TDOT crews play in keeping roads clear.

Rhea Elementary’s plow, themed “Clear the Way for a Brighter Day,” features a radiant sun with rainbow-colored rays and bold, hand-painted lettering stretching across the blade. The cheerful design is full of color, creativity, and heart.

Before hitting the roads this winter, the plow will make appearances at local events and parades across West Tennessee, spreading a little sunshine wherever it goes.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.

The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee carries the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500.
