NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs and its partners will host Consumer Protection Day on the Hill on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in downtown Nashville. The event, planned to highlight National Consumer Protection Week (March 4 – March 10), aims to help people understand their consumer rights and make well-informed decisions about money.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced he has formed a working group of leaders from the executive branch, General Assembly, safety, education and mental health to immediately begin reviewing school safety in Tennessee and provide recommendations to enhance the security of school children. While all schools in Tennessee currently have safety plans in place, the Governor’s School Safety Working Group will convene this week to review the policies, procedures and process of developing and implementing those plans, as well as other school safety measures, including communication and collaboration among law enforcement, educators and mental health professionals.

NASHVILLE - John D. Peyton Jr, of Nashville, pleaded guilty to theft and tax evasion charges on Wednesday after an investigation conducted by the Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Peyton, age 57, pleaded guilty to one Class C felony count of theft over $10,000 and two Class E felony counts of tax evasion. Rutherford County Judge Royce Taylor accepted Peyton’s guilty plea. As part of the agreement, Peyton will pay $21,000 in restitution and was fined $12,000. Peyton will serve three years of probation and serve eight hours of community service each month during the first year. The remaining two years will be served unsupervised.
