GATE Award Winners Announced at 2011 Governor's Conference

Recognition Awarded to Companies Expanding Tennessee’s Role in Global Markets

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty today announced that Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC in Memphis, Copperweld Bimetallics, LLC in Fayetteville and Paradoxe Corporation in Jackson are the recipients of the Governor’s Awards for Trade Excellence (GATE). The GATE recognition honors large, medium and small-size companies who have achieved excellence in engaging in global trade. The winners will be presented their award at the 58th Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development on Friday, Sept. 23, during the Governor’s Luncheon.

“These existing Tennessee businesses are showing Tennessee products and services can be successful in a global economy,” Haslam said. “The GATE Award winners are to be congratulated for exploring new markets and seeing the opportunities available in a global marketplace.”

The companies represent winners in three categories: Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC for the large company category, Copperweld Bimetallics, LLC for the medium company category and Paradoxe Corporation for the small company category.

“I congratulate the GATE Award winners for successfully navigating the challenges and opportunities that the global marketplace can bring,” Hagerty said. “Having spent much of my private sector career working with overseas markets, I have a unique admiration for and understanding of the benefits of global trading and how it can help existing Tennessee companies expand and remain competitive.”

Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC is a worldwide freight forwarder, providing full logistics services since 1925. Through a global network of international agents, the company has over 280 partners assisting in shipping needs in approximately 87 countries. Approximately 30 percent of Mallory Alexander International Logistics, LLC’s 2010 sales were direct export sales.

Copperweld Bimetallics, LLC is a leader in the manufacturing of bimetallic products specifically engineered for value and performance, designed from the start to combine the beneficial characteristics of two different metals. Approximately 29 percent of Copperweld Bimetallics, LLC’s annual sales in 2010 were direct export sales.

Paradoxe Corporation specializes in electrical power transmission and distribution of energy and address three distinct segments: electrical utilities, industrial and construction and original equipment manufacturers. The company’s core geographical market is North America, Central America and South America. In 2010, 95 percent of Paradoxe Corporation’s annual sales were attributed to exports.

Tennessee companies exported more than $25.9 billion worth of goods and services to other countries in 2010, an increase of over 35 percent from 2005. Tennessee is the 15th largest exporting state in the U.S. and one of the country’s fastest growing exporters. Since 2005, Tennessee exports to China have grown by 30.1 percent and exports to Japan have increased by 63 percent, according to the Office of Trade and Industry Information, Manufacturing and Services, International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce.
