Claiborne, Grainger, Henderson, Knox, Loudon and Marion counties to receive federal assistance

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced today the federal government will provide Public Assistance to six counties due to the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding, from June 18 to 24, 2011, and with a federal designation of DR-4005.

“My goal remains getting needed federal assistance to county governments affected by our state’s many severe weather events, so local governments can be about the business of rebuilding their communities and infrastructure,” Haslam said.

The designation for Public Assistance will allow government entities and certain private non-profits in Claiborne, Grainger, Henderson, Knox, Loudon and Marion counties to apply for reimbursement of specific expenses related to disaster response and recovery.

This is Tennessee’s 5th Presidential Disaster Declaration in 2011.  Information on Tennessee’s four other federal disaster declarations in 2011 can be found on FEMA’s website here: DR-1965, DR-1974, DR-1978 and DR-1979.

Any additional information about state and federal assistance for affected counties will be released as details become available.
