Haslam Swears In New Claims Commissioner

Robert Hibbett replaces Stephanie Reevers on the three-person commission

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today swore in Robert Hibbett for the Tennessee Claims Commission, replacing Middle Tennessee Commissioner Stephanie Reevers, who served on the commission since January 2004.

Commissioners hold eight-year terms, and Hibbett’s term will be up in 2019.

The Tennessee Claims Commission is attached to the state Treasury Department, and it adjudicates claims involving tax recovery, state employee workers’ compensation and alleged negligence by state officials or agencies.

“As an active member of his community, Robert has a distinguished military and legal career, and I’m pleased to swear him in today as the newest member of the Tennessee Claims Commission,” Haslam said.

Starting in 1989, Hibbett served as Assistant District Attorney General for the 15th Judicial District, and in 2009 he began serving as the Deputy District Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the 15th Judicial District.

He serves on the Board of Governors for the Tennessee Bar Association and is a member of the American Bar Association. He was formerly a board member of the Child Advocacy Center for the 15th Judicial District and a board member for the Mt. Juliet Senior Citizens Center.

Hibbett is a Colonel in the Army National Guard and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2008. He was awarded the Bronze Star, among other commendations and citations, for his service.

He earned a bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Martin in 1982 and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1985.
