Haslam Names Barry Staubus Sullivan County District Attorney General

Staubus replaces H. Greeley Wells, Jr. who served 18 years in the position
                             
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today announced Deputy Assistant Attorney General Barry Staubus to replace H. Greeley Wells, Jr. as Sullivan County District Attorney General.


Staubus has worked in the Sullivan County District Attorney General’s office since 1994, serving as deputy district attorney since 2002. He also has experience as the division head of the Sullivan County Criminal Court Division I and the designated sexual and physical child abuse prosecutor.

“I’m honored to announce Barry Staubus as the next Sullivan County District Attorney General,” Haslam said. “He has extensive experience in the community, and I believe the county will continue to be well served by his professionalism and dedication to serving the people in the years to come.”

Staubus has his J.D. from the Cecil Humphreys School of Law at the now-University of Memphis and a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University.

He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and National District Attorney’s Association. He also is a hearing panel member on the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility and a president and member of Blountville Ruritan.

In 2007, Staubus received the Tennessee Chapter of the Children’s Advocacy Centers CPIT Excellence Award for his commitment to investigation and prosecution of child sexual abuse cases.

“I appreciate all of the encouragement and support from those in the community,” Staubus said. “I am committed to giving the citizens of Sullivan County the service they are entitled to, and I will serve them to the fullest of my ability.”

Staubus, 53, is married to Gena, and they have two children and two grandchildren.
