Patient Preparation

  • Highly contagious, use standard precautions when collecting specimen.
Specimen Collection
Special Labeling
  • Specimen must be labeled with at least two unique patient identifiers and match accompanying PH-4182 Clinical Submission Requisition.
Specimen Processing
  • None
Specimen Storage and Preservation
  • Store specimen at 17 - 25°C prior to shipment.
  • Place perianal slide in plastic or cardboard slide holder before packing for shipping.
Specimen Transportation
  • Ship specimen at 17 - 25°C.
  • All infectious substance shipments must conform to U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR 49 C.F.R. Parts 171-180). 
Specimen Acceptability Rejection
  • Unsatisfactory specimens include, but may not be limited to:  

-  The slide was broken in transit

-  Slide submitted with frosted or "magic" tape

-  Specimen was received in an unapproved container

-  Specimen is not indentified properly (i.e. information does not match the       accompanying requisition)

-  Specimens recieved at improper temperature
