PSI & Exam Information
Cosmetology and Barber Examiners BoardPSI administers the exams for the Cosmetology and Barber Examiners Board. Exam options with PSI include remote proctoring for the theory exam and the practical exam. Candidates can choose to test at a PSI center if they do not have a computer that supports the camera and/or required technology. Both exams use new content referred to as the National Exam.

Cosmetology and Barber Examinations are given at various locations throughout the state. Each profession has a different candidate bulletin to use as reference material prior to taking the exams. You may download the bulletin at the website linked above.
Application for Examination
To be eligible for examination, your school must submit an online application to PSI and meet the requirements. You are required to complete training in a licensed school or comply with the standards established by the cosmetology and barber laws and rules. Once the completed application is submitted, PSI will approve eligibility for testing and will email instructions on how to pay and schedule the examination.
Examination Attendance
You are to report to the scheduled site on the date and time indicated on your admission notice. You must bring your admission notice and a photo ID (driver's license or State ID) for admittance to the examination. Arrive early because the doors lock when the exam starts. The name on the registration must match your identification documents.
Special Arrangements
If a visual or physical disability or other special need prevents you from taking the examination under regular conditions, you may request special arrangements. Please submit written documentation of your disability to help PSI determine the arrangements to be made. PSI complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Rescheduling
Any candidate who will not be able to attend the scheduled examination must send a written request or call PSI to be rescheduled for the next examination date. This notification must be received by PSI at least ten (10) business days before the original examination session. There is a rescheduling fee, which will be paid before rescheduling your next examination date if notification is not received ten (10) days before the exam date.
Examination Results
All examination results are emailed directly to the email address PSI has for each candidate. Please search your junk email if the results are not received within two (2) business days of your exam date. If a score report is not received after two business days, contact PSI directly.
