Barber Instructor
Cosmetology and Barber Examiners BoardA barber instructor is a person registered as a master barber and certified by the Board as a barber instructor.
Prospective
No barber school or college may operate without the presence of a registered barber instructor. A barber school must have at least one registered barber instructor or barber instructor assistant for every 15 students enrolled and must have one licensed barber instructor for each barber instructor assistant.
Requirements
Certification Requirements
Hold a valid certificate of registration as a master barber, having been duly registered as a master barber for a period of at least three years and having completed a 300-hour instructor training program at a Board-certified barber school, and meet the education, continuing education, and examination requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements
Complete a Board-approved course in instructor training of at least 300 hours within a period of six months as an instructor trainee OR obtain the barber instructor certificate for a minimum of one year.
For an individual to receive an instructor license, they need to have been licensed for at least three years.
Examination Requirements

Continuing Education Requirements
Attendance in a barber instructor training program of at least sixteen (16) hours every two years at a session approved by the Board. They are held yearly, one in each Grand Division. For more information, visit the Upcoming Continuing Education Seminars page.
