Emergency Contractor’s License Information
Pursuant to Executive Order No. 13 by Governor Bill Lee, item #5 allows the Board for Licensing Contractors to waive examinations to issue temporary licenses. For additional information, please see “Temporary License Request”. In addition, item #14 allows contractors
to perform storm damage cleanup, resulting from the severe weather in Tennessee, without a contractor’s license. This order remains in effect until May 2, 2020.
The mission of the Board for Licensing Contractors is to assure quality and fair construction practices exist in all phases of the industry in order to protect the safety and welfare of the public. The Board was originally established in 1931, and today remains a bridge between the consumers and contractors of Tennessee. Licensing offers the consumers a mechanism to voice their concerns.
A contractor's license is required prior to contracting (bidding or negotiating a price) whenever the total cost of the project is $25,000 or more. For licensing information for projects less than $25,000, see “Types of Licenses”.
