These requests can only be made by licensed contractors online through their CORE account. There is no fee associated with this transaction. Requests must include experience and be accompanied by a current "Reviewed” or “Audited” financial statement prepared by a licensed CPA. The prepared financial statement must be less than 12 months old at the time of submission of the request and follow the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

A “Reviewed” financial statement is required for limits of $3,000,000 or less.

An “Audited” financial statement is required for limits exceeding $3,000,000. These requests must show at least $300,000 in working capital, net worth, and experience.

Note that increases requested within the first year of licensure will not be allowed without special permission from the Board (Rule 0680-01-.14(4)).

Applying for classification modifications can only be done by licensed contractors online through their CORE account. There is no fee associated with this transaction. Exam scores, if applicable, or a trade exam waiver through reciprocity must accompany the application, along with a POA for Qualifying Agents without ownership in the company, an experience sheet, and a Certificate of Insurance.

Exam requirements for certain classifications can be found on the “How to Get a License” page.

Complete and submit the Qualifying Agent Change form found on the Forms and Downloads page. This is for the modification of Qualifying Agents (QA) on a contractor's license. If adding a QA due to one leaving, the law requires it to be designated within three (3) months, pursuant to TCA § 62-6-115 and Rule 0680-1-.23, or the classification will be invalid until one is added.

The following information is needed when submitting the modification application:

1. Exam Scores (if applicable): For classifications that require a trade exam, include a copy of the passing exam score with the modification application. If requesting reciprocity, include the licensure verification form completed by the other state. The Business and Law Exam is not required for the new QA.

2. Power of Attorney: If the QA is a full-time employee with no ownership or less than 20% ownership interest, the Power of Attorney form must be signed by the owner, notarized, and included with the modification application.

3. Experience Sheet

4. Additional License(s) Associated with QA: Include the license number of any other license(s) connected to the new QA. If the QA is listed on more than one license and is not an owner, they cannot be added. If the QA is listed on more than one license or is a new employee (less than six (6) months), the Board will be required to approve and may request an interview.

5. Board Review: If the QA has been convicted of a felony, has complaints with the Board, pending judgments, or disciplined by this or another license agency, the request will be reviewed at the next Board meeting.

Complete and submit the Mode of Operation Change form found on the Forms and Downloads page. In the event of any change in operation, the licensed entity in question shall have ninety (90) days from the date of the change in mode of operation to submit either an application for a mode change, if there are no changes in ownership or officers, or a new application if there are such changes. Such applications for change in mode of operation may be reviewed and approved consistent with Rule 0680-01-.02.

The entity may not bid on or enter into new contracts until a new or revised license has been issued. However, the entity may continue to work on already existing contracts that were entered into before the change in mode of operation, provided the application is made within the ninety (90) day period.
