Walter (Walt) Stockard joined the Tennessee State Government as a Governor’s Veteran Fellow in January 2026. Prior to his selection for the Fellowship, Walt served 20 years on active duty in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman and later as a Green Beret. He deployed numerous times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, and Inherent Resolve. Walt also served as an instructor at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, where he taught, coached, and mentored senior Green Berets. Throughout his two decades in uniform, Walt gained extensive experience in leadership, project and program management, strategy development, and risk management.
A dedicated lifelong learner, Walt graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University with a B.S. and an M.A. in Strategic Studies. He is a PMI-certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, and a Professional Scrum Master. Walt excels at process improvement and developing creative solutions to complex problems. He resides in Clarksville with his wife and three children and looks forward to continuing his career of service in the State of Tennessee.
