    The TN Journal announced Friday’s publication will be the last with Ed Cromer serving as editor: “It is very difficult to express how much I will miss the weekly writings of Ed Cromer – he is one of a kind. Ed combined a deep knowledge of state government and politics with a sharp wit and unmatched journalistic integrity. The Journal has been a must read for decades thanks to Ed. I have often said “we need more like Ed Cromer” knowing full well that finding someone who could teach you and make you chuckle at the same time is virtually impossible. While much deserved, Ed’s retirement is a big loss for the media industry and an even bigger loss for our State.”

  • Attorney General Expresses Deep Concern about Equifax Data Breach Affecting over 3 Million Tennessee Residents

    Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III today expressed in a letter to credit reporting firm Equifax his deep concern that the personal information of over 3 million Tennessee residents has been stolen by unauthorized individuals, leaving consumers vulnerable to identity theft and financial loss. In doing so, he added his voice to those of several other attorneys general who recently wrote to Equifax with similar concerns.

  • Tennessee Led Coalition Seeks Documents from Opioid Manufacturers and Distributors

    Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III today announced a bipartisan coalition of Attorneys General seeks documents and information from manufacturers and distributors of prescription opioids as part of multistate investigations into the nationwide opioid epidemic. This information will enable the Attorneys General to evaluate whether manufacturers and distributors engaged in unlawful practices in the marketing, sale, and distribution of opioids. Tennessee is leading the group of 41 Attorneys General participating in the multistate investigations.

  • Equifax Data Breach Information

    Equifax has announced a data breach that exposed social security numbers and other sensitive personal information from 143 million Americans. Affected consumers are now at increased risk for identity theft. Consumers should visit Equifax’s website to learn whether they may be at risk and how to apply for available credit monitoring provided by Equifax. The FTC has additional information and resources on their website.

The Order is a significant step in concluding the case.

Slatery III is joining a coalition of 16 state attorneys general in asking President Trump to lead a regulatory reform effort to protect individual rights from regulatory overreach. In a signed letter to President Trump, the coalition, led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, says reforms are necessary to bring the current federal regulatory process under the rule of law.

  • Tennessee Joins $18.5 Million Settlement with Target Corporation over 2013 Data Breach

    An estimated 770,000 Tennesseans were impacted by the cyber-attack: Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III today announced Tennessee has joined 46 other states and the District of Columbia in an $18.5 million settlement with Target Corporation to resolve the states' investigation into the retail company's 2013 data breach. The settlement represents the largest ever multistate data breach settlement.

  • Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Predatory Law Firm Targeting Grieving Families

    Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III today announced the filing of a lawsuit against a Texas law firm, its sole attorney, and two investigators working for the firm. The civil enforcement action, filed in Hamilton County Chancery Court, alleges The Witherspoon Law Group PLLC, based in Dallas, Texas has engaged in the unlawful solicitation of accident victims in Tennessee.
