Tennessee Antimicrobial Steward Call
The Tennessee Antimicrobial Steward Call takes place the second Tuesday of every other month via webinar for one hour. Its purpose is to offer healthcare workers in the hospital setting advice and expertise on various stewardship interventions from people already doing them, discuss relevant stewardship related issues, report relevant state-wide data from TDH, and to foster a sense of community among stewardship pharmacists across the state.
To suggest a topic, volunteer to lead a discussion, or request webinar details, please contact HAI.Health@tn.gov.
Antimicrobial Use Survey
The Antimicrobial Use Survey is a survey developed by the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) to gather data on the amount and distribution of antimicrobial usage in acute care hospitals and long-term care facilities in Tennessee. This can assist facilities with antimicrobial stewardship activities and serves as one way to fulfill the tracking and reporting core elements of antimicrobial stewardship.
Each month, facilities submit data to the appropriate survey link below. The survey asks for the total number of residents/patients in the survey population who had at least one administration of specific antimicrobials during the 24-hour period prior to the survey date/time. This is standardized by a denominator of census on the day of the survey.
Depending on technological expertise, the query may take anywhere from 10–30 minutes, with an additional 5–10 minutes to enter the data.
Each quarter, TDH will provide participating facilities with a personalized report tracking their antibiotic use over time, as well as comparing facility data to that of other participating hospitals or long-term care facilities. We include simple tables and graphs displaying the information. These reports are a FREE service provided by TDH.
