First Lady Maria Lee Announces Fourth Annual Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee First Lady Maria Lee announced the launch of the fourth annual Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge.

The first lady’s service challenge, which begins Wednesday, June 1 and will run through Monday, Aug. 1, encourages rising kindergarten through sixth grade students to devote a portion of their summer to serving others.

“From a young age, my parents demonstrated to me the importance of helping others,” said First Lady Maria Lee. “Through this challenge, it is my hope that kids across our state will see firsthand the long-lasting impacts their service can have in their communities and in their own lives.”

To fulfill the challenge, kids must complete one activity in four of the eight service categories. The top participants will be invited to attend a carnival at the Tennessee Residence in September to celebrate their accomplishments over the summer.

Since the summer challenge began in 2019, more than 800 kids have participated, serving a total of 3420 hours in their communities.

The first lady will visit elementary schools in Knoxville, Lawrenceburg and Jackson in the next two weeks to encourage participation in the Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge.
