THRC Dissolution & Transition of Services

On June 30, 2025, the Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) will dissolve as a state agency. On July 1, 2025, the Commission’s civil rights enforcement duties will transfer to the Office of the Attorney General and Reporter (AG) and its Title VI compliance duties will transfer to the Department of Human Resources (DOHR).

If you have a discrimination complaint that was dismissed by the THRC, you may re-file your complaint or file a private civil action pursuant to Tenn.Code Ann. § 4-21-1201, within 90 days of July 1, 2025. To refile complaints of discrimination, individuals can contact the Civil Rights Enforcement Division of the AG's Office on or after July 1, 2025.  

For any inquiries relating to complaints of discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing, or questions about additional civil rights resources, please contact the Civil Rights Enforcement Division of the Attorney General's Office on or after July 1, 2025, 

For any inquiries relating to Title VI compliance for the State of Tennessee, please contact Title VI Compliance Director, Cheryl Hines, with the Tennessee Department of Human Resources on or after July 1, 2025.
