How to Renew an Active License (Within 30 Days of Expiration)

1. Renewal Application (CORE)

2. Provide a certification of completion for thirty-two (32) hours of commissioner-approved Continuing Education. A transcript of credits cannot be accepted.

3. Provide proof of insurance in the standard Accord format. In either the Insured or Description of Operations section, list the licensee’s first and last name.

4. Fee, $200

a. Expired-Grace: Renewal applications received after the expiration date must also submit a late fee of $25 per month, not to exceed $50.

Course Renewal

How to Renew an Active Course (Within 30 Days of Expiration)

Any person seeking renewal of a Home Inspector license more than sixty (60) days after the expiration date of the license is required to reapply for licensure and fulfill all requirements for initial licensure.

Active to Inactive

A licensee whose license is inactive may not directly or indirectly engage in or conduct or advertise or claim to be engaging in or conducting the business, or acting in the capacity of a home inspector as defined in § 62-6-302, governing home inspectors in this state. No continuing education shall be required for renewal of an inactive license. Licensees holding an inactive license are not required to maintain general liability or errors and omissions insurance. Inactive licenses shall be renewed biannually.

a. Coverage for General Liability must include a minimum policy coverage of at least $500,000.

b. Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance to cover all home inspection activities

c. Proof of Insurance in the standard Accord format. In either the Insured or Description of Operations section, list the applicant’s first and last name.

d. A sworn statement that the licensee has not violated any provisions of the Tennessee Home Inspector Licensing Act of 2005 or the rules promulgated thereunder while the applicant’s license was in inactive status.

e. If more than two years have passed since the license was placed in an inactive status, the applicant shall furnish evidence satisfactory to the commissioner that the applicant has completed 32 hours of commissioner-approved continuing education during the 24 months immediately preceding the date of application for reinstatement.

Retirement

There is no retired status for Home Inspectors.
