The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is proud to announce that the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) has been awarded its Fifth Accreditation Award by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP).

On Wednesday, May 27, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) joined Warren County leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the county's official transition to the Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN).

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Chattanooga/Red Bank Driver Services Center located at 4873 Dayton Blvd., which closed for a planned remodel on March 2, will reopen on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Beginning May 22, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), divisions of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, will join local law enforcement for two traffic safety enforcement campaigns, “Protecting Every Mile: 68 Hours of Enforcement on Highway 68” and “58 Hours on Highway 58,” to reduce traffic fatalities during the Memorial Day weekend.

On May 8, Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Jeff Long and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Matt Perry welcomed the newest graduating classes of Tennessee State Troopers. Lateral Trooper Class 97 completed a rigorous 11-week training. Commissioner Jeff Long served as the keynote speaker during the graduation ceremony and delivered the oath of office as the graduating class was sworn in.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is seeking information that may aid in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash in Sumner County. Preliminary information indicates that a hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian on Saturday, May 2, around 1:15 a.m. in Sumner County. The crash occurred on Hwy 386 (Vietnam Veterans Boulevard) eastbound at mile marker 4 in Hendersonville.

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Blountville Driver Services Center, 3769 Highway 11 West, will close for a planned remodel on Wednesday, May 6.

On April 22, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) announced results from its 2025 annual roadside observational survey to determine the state’s average seat belt usage rate. The survey, conducted during March, April, and May of last year, returned a statewide usage rate of 91.3%. This represents a decrease of approximately 0.9%. compared to Tennessee’s 2024 survey result of 92.2%; however, the 2025 survey result is above the national average of 90%. Tennessee’s 2025 survey result is its fourth-highest annual seat belt usage rate and marks the seventh consecutive statewide observational survey with a rate exceeding 90%.

On April 9, Governor Bill Lee, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Jeff Long and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Matt Perry welcomed the newest graduating class of Tennessee State Troopers. The ceremony took place at the Hermitage Hills Baptist Church with Governor Bill Lee serving as the keynote speaker.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), divisions of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, partnered with Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), local law enforcement, and other traffic safety partners for “Operation Hands Free” to crack down on violators of Tennessee’s Hands-Free Law during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. To kick off the campaign, the THSO hosted press events in Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville followed by distracted driving enforcement bus tours.

On Monday, March 23, 2026, Montgomery County hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially welcoming Montgomery County and the City of Clarksville to the statewide Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN). The event was held at EMS Station 31 on Pace Road and attended by local first responders, including Montgomery County EMS, Fire, 911, Rescue Squad, and the Clarksville Police and Fire Departments, alongside state officials from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announces that the Crossville Driver Services Center (Cumberland County), located at 136 Dooley Street, will temporarily close for a planned remodel beginning Monday, March 30, 2026.

From March 26 to March 28, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will partner with the Robertson County Joint Traffic Task Force for “Operation Safe RobCo,” a multi-jurisdictional initiative to reduce traffic fatalities in Robertson County. Participating agencies will increase enforcement of all hazardous traffic violations. Drivers are reminded to obey all traffic laws, signs, and signals to lower the risk of traffic crashes, injuries, or fatalities.
