Eligibility
CoverKids provides health insurance for eligible children age 18 and younger and eligible pregnant women. For more information on how to apply for CoverKids, go to the Application webpage.
Children
Children can get CoverKids if:
- They are under 19 years of age on the date of application;
- They are Tennessee residents;
- They are not eligible for or enrolled in TennCare;
- They are U.S. citizens or Qualified Non-Citizens (See the Qualified Non-Citizens for more information). Form I-551 or Form I-94 are examples of documents to prove a qualified alien status; and
- Their household income is at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
Note: CoverKids must be your only health plan. To get benefits, your child can’t be part of any other plan and you can’t use CoverKids as a second health plan.
Pregnant Women
Pregnant women can get CoverKids if:
- They are Tennessee residents;
- They are not eligible for or enrolled in TennCare; and
- Their household income is at or below 250% of the federal poverty level (FPL). For a family size of 2, that is $54,100 per year. For a family size of 4, that is $82,500 per year. For more information on income or FPLs, go to the Eligibility Reference Guide webpage.
Note: If you are pregnant, no immigration documents are required. Also, CoverKids covers pregnant women who do not have maternity health benefits. If you have another health plan without maternity benefits, you can still qualify for CoverKids.
