A native of Winchester, Fredia S. Wadley, MD, MSHPA, earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Memphis in 1969 and her Master’s degree in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1978.  She served as Commissioner of Health from January 1995 to January 1997, when Governor Don Sundquist announced a plan to consolidate all the state’s health-related agencies into and a single department and appointed her as state health officer of the newly expanded Tennessee Department of Health, with responsibility for public health programs and medical policy. She was previously director of the Nashville/Davidson County Health Department for eight years.  She also served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Tennessee Department of Health, as well as both the regional medical director and the regional director of the TDH Southeast Region.  Prior to her career in government, Dr. Wadley was on the pediatric faculty of U.T. Memphis and then in private pediatric practice in Winchester.
