Engineer Interns
Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering ExaminersAn Engineer Intern certification is the first step on the path to professional engineering registration.
Applicants for the Engineer Intern certification must complete a four-year degree in engineering approved by the Board (or have senior standing in an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET) and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering examination.
This certification is not required for registration as a Professional Engineer. This certification does not expire and does not require renewal.
Requirements
Education Requirements:
- Engineer Intern applicants must attest that they meet at least one of the three pathways to qualify for certification:
- Graduation with an EAC/ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering degree (4-year minimum) or a degree in engineering that has been determined to be substantially equivalent by the Board.
- Graduation from a four-year curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree approved by the Board, completion of post-graduate coursework in an engineering curriculum leading to a master's degree or higher in engineering approved by the Board.
- Graduation from an ABET/ETAC accredited engineering technology curriculum of four years or more that is approved by the Board, holding a post-graduate degree in engineering from an institution with an ABET/EAC accredited undergraduate engineering program approved by the Board.
Examination Requirements:
- Passage of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination
