Tennessee Emergency Communications BoardGeographic Information Systems (GIS) Committee
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Committee, comprised of nine GIS professionals and emergency communications district directors, evaluates GIS-related challenges and provides recommendations to strengthen the accuracy and reliability of GIS data used in emergency communications. This committee supports the TECB in improving mapping accuracy, routing efficiency, and location-based services—critical elements of modern 9-1-1 operations.
Long-Term Planning Committee
The Long-Term Planning Committee is responsible for offering long-range and strategic recommendations to the TECB. The committee evaluates future needs, emerging trends, and potential system improvements to ensure Tennessee’s emergency communications infrastructure remains forward-looking and sustainable. The committee consists of five members, all of whom are directors of emergency communications districts. Their operational knowledge and strategic insights help guide the TECB in planning for the future of 9-1-1 services across the state.
Operations Advisory Committee
The Operations Advisory Committee provides the TECB with technical and operational recommendations related to emergency communications systems. This nine-member committee is comprised of district directors, 911 administrators, and operations personnel. The committee supports the enhancement of statewide operational standards designed to promote consistency, reliability, and efficiency in 9-1-1 service delivery.
Policy Advisory Committee
The Policy Advisory Committee advises the TECB on policy-related matters, with particular focus on issues that affect both 9-1-1 operations and other governmental entities. This nine-member committee is composed of representatives from emergency communications districts, county governments, and municipal governments. The committee’s work supports the TECB in developing sound and effective policies that advance emergency communications throughout the state of Tennessee.
Technical Advisory Committee
The Technical Advisory Committee, established pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 7-86-308 consists of representatives from
9-1-1 service suppliers and non-wireline service providers. Its purpose is to provide and receive technical and operational information relating to all aspects of wireless enhanced 9-1-1 service. Through its specialized expertise, the committee assists the TECB in monitoring technological developments, evaluating infrastructure needs, and ensuring that Tennessee’s wireless 9-1-1 capabilities remain robust and aligned with industry best practices.
Training Advisory Committee
The Training Advisory Committee reviews and evaluates training requirements for Tennessee’s telecommunicators and dispatchers. The committee provides recommendations to the TECB to ensure that state training standards support the highest level of public safety service. Committee membership includes ECD directors, training coordinators, and representatives from fire services, emergency medical services (EMS), and law enforcement. Together, they ensure that training guidelines reflect current operational demands and evolving best practices.
