Volunteer Fire Assistance

Fire departments serving communities with populations of 10,000 or less are eligible to complete applications for the 2020 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) program. Successful applicants will receive VFA Wildland Fire Suppression Kits to supplement their department's wildland firefighting capacity. These kits will consist of wildland fire personal protective equipment, tools, and other supplies with a total value of approximately $3,000.00.

FY 2020 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant Schedule
August 3 - September 11, 2020 Applications for wildland fire suppression kits accepted.
September 13 - 30, 2020 Applications are reviewed and rated by Assistant District Foresters.
October 1, 2020 Applications with departments approved to receive wildland fire suppression kits are forwarded to the VFA Grant Program Administrator.
October 15, 2020 Departments are notified that they have been accepted to receive a wildland fire suppression kit.
Supplies for Kits are ordered by the State Purchasing Specialist and shipped to districts.
Arrangements are made with Departments to pick up kits once all materials have been received.
December 31, 2020 Distribution of Kits to departments complete.
