Media Advisory: Governor Haslam to Serve as Keynote Speaker at Trooper Cadet Graduation

NASHVILLE --- For the second consecutive year, Governor Bill Haslam will address the Trooper Cadet Class of the Tennessee Highway Patrol in a Friday morning graduation ceremony at Tulip Grove Baptist Church in Old Hickory. Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and THP Colonel Tracy Trott will also speak. It will be the second State Trooper graduation in two years.   

Media are welcomed to attend the Cadet Inspection at 9:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the church. Media wishing to cover the graduation should be in place by 9:45 a.m. Staging will be at the back-right of the church sanctuary.

There are 44 members of Cadet Class 512.  Nineteen have previous law enforcement experience, and 16 were members of the military. The class motto is “For Those Down Range, To Us and Those Like Us – The Few.” 

The Tennessee Department of Safety’s mission is (www.tennessee.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public.  The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
