Memphis Whitehaven Driver Service Center Closing for Construction

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) is temporarily closing the Driver Service Center, currently located at 3200 East Shelby Drive in Memphis, to allow for construction of a new full-service center in the same location.  Construction is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete.

“This closure will allow for construction of a new Driver Service Center on East Shelby Drive to better serve the growing needs of Memphis and Shelby County,” stated Deputy Safety Commissioner Greta Dajani. “We are pleased that this critical location will get a complete facelift to enhance customer service.”
 
The Whitehaven Driver Service Center will close on Thursday, July 16, 2009, and temporarily move to the Walnut Grove Driver Service Center, located at 3040 Walnut Grove Road in Midtown.   The Walnut Grove facility has been expanded to provide customers with the best possible service. The new days and hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Walnut Grove Service Center is located across from the Memphis Central Library on Walnut Grove Road and behind the Memphis Police Department Central precinct on Tillman Street.
 
Customers may also utilize the other nearby full-service Driver Service Centers in Shelby County. Directions to the Summer Avenue Driver Service Center, located at 6340 Summer Avenue in East Memphis.
  • Take I-40 East toward Nashville to Exit 12 (Sycamore View).
  • Turn left onto Sycamore View. Take Sycamore View to Summer Avenue (Hwy 70) and turn right.
  • The Driver Service Center is 1 ½ miles down on the left.
Directions to the Millington Driver Service Center, located at 5019 West Union Road north of Memphis in Millington: 
  • Take Hwy 51 (Thomas Street) north to Millington.
  • Go through Millington past Wal-Mart.
  • Turn left on West Union Road (the second street past Wal-Mart). The Driver Service center is on the left.
Effective July 16th, the new hours of operation for all Driver Service Centers in Shelby County will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 
Customers may also utilize the full-service Driver Service Centers in Tipton and Fayette County. Tipton and Fayette Driver Service Centers are open Tuesday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Customers only needing a duplicate license or to renew their driver license can visit online at www.tn.gov/safety.
